Cervical Smears

All women over the age of 24 are encouraged to have a smear test which is carried out 3 yearly until the age of 50, and 5 yearly beyond until the age of 65.

Invitations are sent directly from the Cervical Smear Screening Service.
You will be sent 3 invitations from the Screening Services and a final reminder from the Practice.

We encourage all our patients to attend their screening but you still have the right to decline.
You can also defer your screening for up to 18months or withdraw from the service completely although this is hightly unadvisable. Please contact the Surgery so we can record you choice.

We employ trained nurses to run the smear clinic and doctors also take smears in surgery.  If you are in doubt whether your smear is due, just ask the receptionist.

About 75% of eligible women in our practice have had a smear in the last 5 years.
